GoldSilver.com offers the highest level of security available in the precious metals industry, known as "segregated" vault storage, at the Brink's Depository in Salt Lake City, Utah (Yes this is the same Brink's that has the armored cars that deliver the currency to the banks). However, Brink's is not part of the Banking system and does not fall under the same laws and jurisdiction as the banks. During the week of 911, the government shut down the banking system, but Brink's was still open, doing business, and shipping and receiving gold and silver. In fact, the Salt Lake depository is open 364 days per year… they only close on Christmas day.
Once the funds are received for your order, your gold and silver will be counted once, and then counted again by a different auditor, both under the watchful eye of videotape surveillance. They both must agree, and then sign the inventory list. Your precious metals are then placed into a container(s), and sealed (with the exception of U.S. Mint cases of U.S. Eagle coins, which are already sealed). They are then tagged with your name, account number, the contents, and then securely stored in the vault. Then they will mail you a certificate of storage that lists the items.
With this level of security the actual bars and coins that you bought are stored separately, and not mixed with anyone else's. If you ever want your metals shipped to you, just call and it will be on its way within 48 hours (excluding weekends). Even if ten years have passed, you will receive the exact same bars and coins that you purchased. Another advantage is that when you want to sell it back it's already in the vault system so it doesn’t need to be assayed (saving the associated charges). And lastly, it's liquid and it's quick. There's no time lost in transit because it's already in the vault. When you sell your check will usually be mailed or a bank wire transfer completed within 72 hours. Sometimes if you sell back to us in the early morning, funds can be wire transferred into your account and cleared (available to write a check against) in as little as 24 hours.
The holdings are allocated to you and are not carried as an asset on the GoldSilver.com's books. Should we change ownership, or close for any reason, your precious metals are still safe, and they are still yours.
