The Big Three, Europe, U.S. and Japan have been fighting the forces of deflation since the great recession 10 years ago, the U.S. has fared a tad better through unprecedented QE and next to zero interest rates, but the debt has increased greatly. Europe is still fighting it and has not come out yet.
I't seems Japan in the canary in the coal mine as they have been fighting deflation for over 25 years and may never come out, which could trigger a global deflationary melt down.
Periods of deflation most commonly occur after long periods of artificial monetary expansion.
