It's interesting that Robert Shiller a Professor of Economics Yale University, is looking at technology as to why people are stagnant in spending, Instead of the Black Swan event in 2007/2008. Shiller goes back in history to show that stagnation was also around during the great depression.
People are increasingly limiting their spending because they fear they could suffer an economically catastrophic event.
