Vault storage of your physical gold investment comes complete with ownership records and a way to sell or take delivery whenever you’d like. The vault holds the bullion, while GoldSilver, powered by the GBI platform, allows you to manage your vaulted metals in the same manner as you would stocks or bonds.
The GBI platform is the same technology used by some of the world’s leading financial institutions to buy and sell precious metals. It features the SmartMetals™ Marketplace, which provides fast, electronic trading where multiple bullion dealers compete to fill your order; SmartMetals ™ Custody , which ensures your assets are held in the world’s most secure vaults, truly allocated with flat storage fees and on-demand delivery; and the Golden Ledger, verifying that every investment is audited, insured, and validated with monthly statements.
The process begins as soon as you make an investment. Arrival, allocation, statements and delivery each have a role. This article explains how those steps fit together at an eligible Brink’s facility.
Where does your gold go after purchase?
During the buying process, you select from the vault locations available for your order. GoldSilver’s vault storage options currently include Salt Lake City, Dallas, Toronto, Singapore and Hong Kong. (Brink’s is located in Salt Lake City.) Your chosen location therefore determines which operator holds the metal.
GoldSilver arranges delivery and administers the storage account. The selected vault operator takes physical custody.
Arrival is the next step after purchase. 1–8 business days after payment is the estimate for metals to reach the vault. Certain orders can take longer. You can track order status online. The vault’s certification of receipt confirms arrival and enables online resale.
The Knowledge That Changes Everything
Two essential guides — yours free. Understand why gold matters and why fiat currencies always fail.
How is your gold identified inside the vault?
Once the gold arrives, the key question is how it is held for you. Allocated storage is available, with segregated storage offered at eligible Brink’s locations.
Allocated storage records your ownership of physical bullion. Similar products can share a storage area, while records identify each customer’s quantity. For example, ten one-ounce gold coins can be recorded as your holding alongside other customers’ coins of the same type. This does not necessarily reserve those exact individual coins for eventual delivery.
Segregated storage adds physical separation from other GoldSilver customers’ holdings. The guide to allocated and segregated storage explains how these arrangements differ.
Both arrangements feature clear ownership records. The storage agreement says the property must be identifiable as yours and arranged so it can be audited and separated. The practical distinction is whether your metal also occupies separate storage space.
How can you review and verify your holdings?
After arrival, your online account, powered by GBI, provides access to your holdings and statements. GoldSilver provides a statement whenever storage holdings change. A statement also accompanies the month-end storage invoice. You can download statements to keep a record of your holdings over time.
Physical checks happen at the vault. GoldSilver’s staff and independent auditors conduct scheduled and unscheduled counts and operational inspections.
These checks and your account statement serve different purposes. An inventory count checks the physical metal at the facility; a statement records the holdings attributed to your account. Together, they explain how stored bullion and customer records connect.
What does gold vault storage cost, and how is it insured?
Allocated storage costs 0.06% of asset value per month, with a $4 minimum.
For example, $10,000 of gold would cost $6 per month. If that value remained unchanged, storage would total $72 over 12 months, before additional services. Because charges depend on value, the bill can change even when the number of ounces stays the same.
Segregated storage is billed at 0.24% per quarter, with a $105 quarterly minimum per metal type, per vault.
Insurance is another part of custody. The customer agreement requires insurance sufficient to cover the value of stored precious metals. It also provides for an insurance certificate on request. The facility’s liability for stored property begins when it receives the metal.
Policy terms determine which losses are covered. Insurance for metal inside the vault and insurance during delivery are separate considerations. Before requesting shipment, confirm the transit arrangements that apply.
What happens when you sell or request delivery?
Selling stored gold does not require taking it home first. Once the vault certifies receipt, you can sell online.
Delivery involves moving the metal out of storage. Outstanding storage fees must be settled before shipment release. Shipping, handling and insurance charges apply, and taxes or import duties may also be due.
The delivery request starts a process whose timing depends on the shipment and destination. It does not promise immediate dispatch.
For a long-term holder, the arrangement combines physical custody with records of ownership and a defined way to sell or retrieve the metal. Understanding those mechanics makes it easier to judge the service, its costs and how it fits your plans.
