Our 1 oz Seated Liberty Silver Round is inspired by the coins first minted in the 1840’s. Part of the story of this coin took place when the Coinage Act of 1853 was passed. This Act lowered the silver content of coins by 6.9%, but it only covered coins ranging from nickels to half dollars. So, the Seated Liberty’s original face value of $1 exempted it from the Act and its silver content was preserved. However, the original Seated Liberty still only had a silver content of .773 oz.
